About Tradgirl
English to Russian
     by Paulina Varchavskaia
DYNO [Other resources] [Printer-friendly version] [Back]

I use transliteration to get the sounds across, so that you don't have to have any special encryptions for your browser to read it.

Some conventions may need a special mention:
1) /r/ - is rolled (like Queen's or operatic English)
2) /y/ - is a weird sound, a little like the short English /i/ (as in bit) and pronounced more at the back of the throat with the tongue down (dont' worry about it)
3) /g/ - is like /g/ in get
4) /zh/ - is like the French /g/ in gentil
5) /j/ - is like the initial sound /y/ in Yosemite
6) /c/ - is like /ts/ pronounced very closely together
7) ' - is used to represent a "softened" consonant sound, for example, /l'/ would be like the French /l/, /sh'/ would be like the French /ch/ in chic (rather than chat)
