Everyday Tao by Ming-Dao Deng

In Everyday Tao, Ming-Dao Deng takes Chinese characters and uses them to illustrate some Tao concept. Some of the characters lend themselves well to this while others are a bit of a strain. However, it’s not really the characters that are important. It’s the lesson he’s delivering and the character can be ignored or be used as a shortcut to remembering that lesson. Overall, he gives you a lot to think about. I’m not very familiar with the concepts of Tao and this was a good introduction. It’s not ritualistic or religious but simple and rooted in serenity and peaceful coexistence.

Tao Te Ching by Stephen Mitchell
