Intelligence by Ian J. Deary

Part of the “A Very Short Introduction” series, Intelligence covers eleven datasets, each of which illustrates something about intelligence. He goes over the role of genetics in intelligence, the role of intelligence in job success, how intelligence changes with age, and how and why intelligence is measured. He brings up some controversies but manages to stay non-confrontational (even while he’s telling you that certain popular authors are quacks). Each chapter finishes with references to works with more detail on the subject. It’s a short, quick read which I found very educational. To me, it was a non-biased and fact-based presentation but I have to admit that I agreed with/expected most of what he said based on my own personal experience.
