Sometimes the dated behaviors grate.  For instance, the hero shows his love for the heroine by constantly urging her to lie down.  And everyone smokes.  A lot.  But generally the dated atmosphere adds to the charm.  Otherwise, it&#8217;s just your standard domestic mystery.  Person gets killed.  Everyone is a suspect.  More people get killed.  Everyone turns out to be more intimately related to each other than was initially known.  Nothing new.<\/p>\n<p>I think I&#8217;ve read one of Mary Rinehart&#8217;s books before and I think this one is probably a poor example.  There are spots where it seems hastily written and poorly edited.  She occasionally forgets that some fact was already known or was contradicted earlier.
