Dandelion by Sheelagh Mawe

Sort of a parable, Dandelion: The Extraordinary Life of a Misfit tells the story of a horse who doesn’t know where he fits in. It’s cute and inspirational but a little preachy in parts. It makes the mistake of announcing its moral out loud during a couple of boring chapters of horsey introspection. I personally found the Irish brogue more irritating than sweet. Brogues are for dialog, not for narration. Even if you like an Irish lilt, you might appreciate more variety in sentence structure. But I have the feeling this book was somewhat homegrown so we’ll overlook what an editor might have corrected and call it a modern fairy tale.
