Procrastination by Jane Burka and Lenora Yuen
So I finally got around to reading Procrastination: Why You Do It, What to Do About It. Ha ha. Just kidding. I’m actually good about reading, obviously. It’s other tasks I procrastinate on, like writing or chores or doing something useful with my life.
The first part of the book, Why You Do It, offered some interesting insight as to why I personally might procrastinate. It also offered insight into why every other person on the planet might procrastinate. It turns out you might procrastinate because you stubbed your big toe against your bunk bed when you were five or for any other reason, all of which were listed ad nauseum. But I did recognize myself in some sections.
The second part of the book What to Do About It was ridiculously short. After listing all the options that won’t work and all of the ways you’ll fight against the few options that might work, the authors leave you with little more than a two week plan to reach a single goal. The two week goal was a good idea and I reached it (in one week even) so then I did a second one. And then? Well, I guess the rest is up to me. The authors stop after that first exercise.
The last chapter lists ways of dealing with a procrastinator if the procrastinator isn’t you. It ends on the pessimistic note that you might just need to fire an employee who procrastinates. OK, bye. Hope that helped.
