Lies at the Altar by Robin Smith

I’m not planning on getting married anytime soon. Or ever. So Lies at the Altar: The Truth About Great Marriages was a strange choice for me. I suppose the title intrigued me since I’ve always questioned how someone can honestly promise “forever.” I know I couldn’t say that with a straight face, believing I believed it.

That’s not really the sort of lie Dr. Robin is talking about, exactly, but she is trying to debunk the happily ever after myth that you can make a bunch of promises and it’ll all come out right. She’s asking you to put everyday work into the relationship and also to have realistic expectations and know each other going into it. Those concepts apply with or without the altar.

I was looking for advice on making and keeping a relationship strong and, the title aside, something about the description of the book and the few passages I perused at the book store caught my attention. I thought it was excellent.
