Danger by Dick Francis
I have no interest in horses. Really, none. So I guess that’s why I’ve never taken to Dick Francis even though I’ve enjoyed every book of his I’ve ever read. But I don’t buy them, only read them as they fall into my lap. Danger is a particularly good example, a truly great mystery book, entertaining and original every step of the way. (OK, I have to ding him because it “gets personal” at the end, but at least it’s set up well.) Well written with strong, unique characters, fast paced but thoughtful, no ridiculous coincidences or superhuman feats of reasoning to solve the puzzle, Danger is an excellent thriller.
I should read more Francis.
