Papillon by Henri Charriere
Papillon is supposed to be a true story but if you believe it you’re a gullible idiot. No man was ever so loved, so capable, so selfless, wonderful, valiant, stalwart, loyal as Papillon. If it were sold as fiction it would be given the thumbs down for not having a believable main character. So why would we find him believable just because someone claims he really existed?
Reading this story made my brain hurt. If one more person had given Papillon his last dime, grandfather’s trusty revolver, or virgin daughter because Papillon is just that swell and inspiring, I’d have puked. I can’t dis-recommend this book enough.
Hi
Have you read a book by

Master of the Girl Pat
Interesting, I read Papillon for the first time in 7th grade as a recommendation of my english teacher. i’ve read it a couple of times since then and i have to disagree with you. it sounded pretty rough to me. i think the fact that so many people seemed to dote on him was because of his ambition. it was also a different world down there. he had the money to throw around. i’m sure there was a little padding, but i don’t doubt for a minute this guy existed. and his noteriety preceeded him. word of mouth. in today’s world it might not mean something to say, hey this is my best friend… great guy… please do whatever you can for him. back then a lot that people actually could go on… was someone else’s word. even if they were inmates. it’s all about the clout.
